I am Carlien Stokes, a native from the Philippines. A medical billing and coding specialist, and currently working for Dr. Dana Robinson as her administration assistant and billing medical specialist. Most of my friends describe me as kind-hearted, easy to be with, sassy, friendly and always outspoken. I am an optimist and have big dreams and never give up on anything until I succeed.
I have a passion for helping people. I have helped many people from doing healthcare to massage and doing what I can to help others in different ways. I was born in San Francisco and grew up in the Peninsula. I went to school in Burlingame and graduated from San Mateo high school.
I started my healthcare experience in January of 2000-August 2010. I started my experience as a caregiver then worked myself up as care manager. I learned a lot about many different medical conditions. The experience that I acquired was very rewarding, sad, challenging and inspiring. I started doing massage on some of my clients because I disliked seeing them in pain. The results were rewarding and very helpful. I then decided to start massage school in September 2007 and graduated in April 2008. I started my first massage job in July 2008.
My first massage job was at Burke Williams Day Spa. There I learned a variety of massage from Deep Tissue, Pregnancy, Reflexology and other specialty massage like Hot Stones, Detox Massage and Aroma Therapy. I have worked at Massage Envy and there I mainly did basic Swedish Massage, Deep Tissue, Pregnancy and some specialty massage. I have worked in Chiropractic and learned mostly how to work with injuries from car accidents, work related injuries and also chronic pain. I have learned a lot about the body. Seeing my clients in pain is heartbreaking and I just want to fix them all. I love seeing my clients walk out pain free is so rewarding. Massage has made my clients be a lot more aware of their bodies. I also enjoy giving my clients recommendations and ideas to help with any self-care and to help prevent injury.
When I am not working, I enjoy being outside in nature walking or hiking. I enjoying venturing out into new places. I love to be around water and the ocean is one of my favorite places because it helps me to feel at peace.
Dawn is passionate about helping people reach their health and healing goals. When we experience trauma or excessive day to day life stressors, it’s common for our lives to unravel, taking a toll on the mind and body. Massage therapy is an essential component to your overall well-being, bringing balance and giving you back control of your life.
A graduate in 2006, from National Holistic Institute in Emeryville, I spent my early years in the massage industry specializing in swedish, relaxation and aromatherapy in a spa environment. Transitioning to a clinical setting in 2011 provided me an opportunity to work with more target specific issues. From sports related and repetitive strain injuries, lumbar issues and limited range of motion, to geriatric, oncology, arthritis, chronic conditions and headache relief. I’ve continued my education throughout my career with ABMP courses (Associated Bodywork & Massage Professionals) gaining more in depth knowledge of myofascial release techniques. In 2016, I became a certified stretch provider through NCBTMB (National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork) providing me with a deeper understanding of how to increase flexibility and mobility with assisted stretch. Communication is the success of any relationship, including therapeutic ones. No two people are the same. We will work together on your wellness journey getting you back to your maximum potential.
When Dawn isn’t at the wellness center, you can probably find her hanging coastside. Born and raised in the Bay, to escape the hustle of the city, she’ll blast her 80’s music and head to the beach. There are so many amazing, hidden gems all along the Cali coast! Sunrise, waves, sand, sunset...it’s the simple, little things that rejuvenate my soul.
